No derm or urology for me.

I was reminded of this medical specialty aptitude test hosted by the University of Virgina thanks to one of my favorite blogs, mothersinmedicine and a recent post.

Now I had taken this test awhile back and remember being surprised by the results. So I ask you to take it and let us know, what ranked first?  Last?  Where did the specialty that you think you might want to do rank?

----
So, I took the aforementioned medical specialty aptitude test, twice(!) as I wasn't happy with my results the first time. I just don't think I'm suited to Thoracic Surgery despite what the results show.... I waited a few days and then gave my answers a bit more thought. It didn't change much, dermatology and urology ranked very close to the bottom both times and I think I can safely cross both of those off my list of possible future careers. Not that either of them were ever my imaginary list anyhow.

My top three ranking choices changed from
1thoracic surgery43
2psychiatry42
3preventive med41

to a somewhat similar
1occupational med46
2physical med & rehabilitation45
3psychiatry44

So pysch? I did major in psychology and may consider pediatric psychiatry.... I don't know about the others...  I was sad that neither peds nor neuro were anywhere near the top of my list as I think I could be happy doing peds or peds neuro, but maybe I just don't really have any idea. Right now we are doing head and neck in anatomy and I'm loving the idea of ENT.... so I guess I have 3+ years to think about and change my mind a million times. At the moment I think I might do the head and neck selective next term and try to shadow an ENT this summer....

Maybe this is a better way to find a specialty.

Your turn!
